NCVEI- Our Mission

The NCVEI Mission

To improve the economic base of the veterinary profession, ensuring that the delivery of veterinary care and service meets the needs of society.

Laying the Foundation for the Future

The goal for Year One was to construct a firm foundation upon which to build specific problem-solving initiatives in Year Two. The first objective was to ensure that the veterinary community was aware of the studies and clearly understood the mission of the NCVEI.

To spread the report's "call to action" nationwide, a number of activities took place throughout the first year, including: National Forums hosted by NCVEI's Board of Directors, State and Regional meetings held across the country, and the creation of a Sponsor's council to solicit financial and intellectual support from the industry.
Where are we going? Year Two began with the selection and hiring of Mr. Howard Rubin as Chief Executive Officer. Howard, who is a certified public accountant with an MBA degree, came to NCVEI with multifaceted business experiences in the animal health industry, including building veterinary hospitals. The second year also witnessed the opening of the NCVEI office in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Work was started early in 2001 to create NCVEI's interactive Web site to be used not only as a tool of communicating information, but also as a means of connecting veterinarians to a technical business process and data model. In January, 2002, the NCVEI launched a series of twelve benchmarking tools to help veterinarians evaluate and improve the economic status of their practices. Subsequent years saw the development of tools for equine and large animal veterinarians as well as members of the support staff.

The NCVEI "Exam Room" allows veterinarians the opportunity to take the pulse of their practice and learn how to improve its financial health, so it can improve the quality of patient care. While the initial focus of these tools is companion animal practices, future plans include the development of tools for equine and large animal practitioners.

As NCVEI moves ahead, there will be opportunities to participate in discussions on issues through our Web site and on the national, state and local levels. NCVEI is committed to ensuring a viable economic future for everyone whose lives are linked with veterinary medicine.
